Leicestershire County Council Library Service in partnership with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council wish to appoint an artist to design and make a permanent mural at Newbold Verdon Library. The mural will be attached to the wall rather than being applied directly to the surface.
We require there to be community involvement through artist led workshops* and the subject matter be relevant to the village of Newbold Verdon.
The completed art work should be low maintenance and as far as possible, resistant to vandalism and conform to Health and Safety standards. The feature will be sited to the side of the newly-built Library.
It should not be more than 1.8 metres tall nor more than 6.5 metres long.
A budget of up to £5,000 is available. This should allow for artists fees, materials, manufacture and installation.
Send expressions of interest to Gill Harris describing your ideas, how you might involve the local community and a budget breakdown. A shortlist will be made from interested artists and those selected will be invited to produce a more detailed submission (including possible designs) and to attend an interview to discuss their ideas. For this, a fee of £150 plus up to £30 travelling expenses will be paid.
It is expected that workshops will start in early September, with the mural completed by the end of October.
Expressions of interest should be sent to Gill Harris at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) by Friday 21 May. Postal entries can be sent to Gill Harris, Newbold Verdon Library, Sparkenhoe, Main Street, Newbold Verdon LE9 9NP
This project is funded by the Big Lottery.
* The types of community groups to work with in Newbold include the local Primary School (which has a unit for children with autism), the older persons coffee morning group, the Newbold Verdon Youth Group, the Gardening Club and the traveller community.
